Kahanamoku beach is one of the best beaches in Honolulu! You can easily walk to this beach from most of our vacation rentals in Waikiki, but this beach is the closest to our vacation rentals at the Ilikai Hotel and the Ilikai Marina. If you need to find parking, there is metered parking along the Marina or free parking in the parking lot closest to Kahanamoku beach. Sometimes they have food vendors in the parking lot too. If you're there on a Friday be sure to stick around and get a front row view of the Friday night Fireworks around 7:45 - 8 pm, they set the fireworks off right there on this beach!
Here's what to expect when you visit Kahanamoku Beach
- Lots of people
- Beach Activities: You can swim, snorkel, and stand-up paddleboard either in the ocean or in the lagoon, or rent an Aqua cycle to use in the lagoon
- Great for families
- Popular surf spots close by
- The water is calm because it is well protected, which makes it great for swimming and paddle boarding
- It can be a bit rocky in some areas so you will want to keep an eye out for that when walking into the ocean
This beach is clean and has a beautiful view of Diamond Head, well-located - close to shops, and restaurants, and rental kiosks along the beach so if you forget to bring anything, you will most likely be able to purchase or rent any beach equipment you need while you are there. Just remember to bring cash or a debit/credit card just in case, oh and plenty of sunscreen!
